My first steps with the new GT-600 compare to the GT-120

The GT-600

Personal adaptation... due to involuntary pressure of the button:
As for the GT-120, I got screwed by the interruption of my GPS. The data logger put in the pocket, when I bent to take a picture, it had the bad idea to stop due to the pressure of the jeans. 
Of course, its when I reached my final destination that I found out the logger stopped, part of the trip missing.
As for the GT-120, here is the plastic cover that I made, its home-made but good workmanship.
That's the idea, but an adaptation is possible.
Supplement for you, the drawing of the protection above for the GT-600 and similar for the GT-200e.

That's it, I have the newborn from IgotU, the GT-600, similar to the GT-200e with motion detector and more memory than the GT-120.

Almost double the size of the Super GT-120, also in weight and all wet, 37g (yes, it is resistant to water but do not abuse, best is to protect it with a plastic bag to avoid bad surprises...). 



Package:
This time, 
-a small Velcro strap is supplied,
-Silicone protection, transparent,
-USB-cable connection with a specific end bit slightly different from the GT-120 with an improved keyed pin to avoid connecting it upside down and screw up the device. The old cable can also be used on the GT-600 by slightly modifying the connector (an effort could be made in this direction for a standard USB mini plug, which is the case for the new GT-1800-1900)
-Mini-cd included not needed because the software is identical to the GT-120 and all other GPS  IgotU brand from MobileAction http://global.mobileaction.com/product/product_i-gotU_GT- 600.jsp, Best to download on their site the last drivers, programs and updates.


GT-120 vs. GT600

1) 8 to 10 hours operating on internal battery (230mA / h)  for the GT-120 against over 30 hours for the GT-600 750mA / h (not tested for more than 30 hours, with immobility during the night and short trips during daytime. Battery should last 36 hours, referring to it's specifications)

2) Motion detector is on the GT-600 only, allowing automatic standby for greater autonomy. Be careful, after standby mode, the satellites acquisition might need some time to log, this is not the case for a short
standby, which in this case is immediate. (Automatic shut-down after 90 seconds immobility) 
The great advantage of this motion detector is its automatic standby mode. At each standby situation, it will continue in the same file between two standby modes, its not like pressing the button of the device that would create a new file. I prefer to stop and restart the GPS (immediate reception of satellites in this case) to create my different transport modes, much more convenient for the management of the trip thereafter, automatically creating different colours per file of each trip.


Example of use:
Imagine 5 days of travel at 5 hours recording data per day. Since this unit is, according to the supplier's specifications provided for 36 hours of battery life, after the 5 days you will have accumulated 25 hours of data recordings, without needing to recharge your device or transfer data. It has ample memory capacity its also not a problem (262'000 points) After these 5 days at 5 hours logging, you still theoretically have more than 10 hours of battery life.
I've tested it since one week, the GPS still logs for my short trips to work, it works wonderfully well, because I have not yet reached the "ultimate" 36 hours, I'm about 30 hours of recorded data   :o)  A new trip made me stop this test.

3) If the interval time is adjusted manually with more than 7 minutes, the GPS goes to sleep and thus also increase the autonomy (also for other recent models from 1s to 7 minutes, it will remain switched on continuously and save unwanted way-points ) be aware, this situation could also need more time to immediately find the satellites.

4) 64 000 way-points against 262,000 for the GT-600, more than enough for a trip of 2 weeks or more without checking it but I would not advise it. (end up facing a frustration if some journey is missing)

5) Additional settings in the software for the GT-600 to activate the automatic standby or not with the motion sensor.

6) Circular logging coordinates, which mean that if the memory is full, the oldest data will be erased.

7) Start button bigger than the GT-120. To avoid inadvertently stopping it, what happened to me several times at the beginning (bad point in my opinion), I made a small plastic protection that I slip under the silicone, I did the same with this model, fits GT-200e and 600.

8) The LEDs are operating as the other devices, barely visible in sunlight. They operate on the same basis, regular interval chosen, the red and blue flashing 2 times during the acquisition in terms of coordinated and irregular intervals, the blue flashes once.

9) I have not seen a big difference when purchasing the GPS when I put both devices in the same pocket. The GT-600 found more quickly satellites, the GT-120 logged only 500m later during that test. A test on several occasions would be necessary to get an opinion.

10) The excellent idea of the motion sensor can significantly reduce the logged points when you stop moving. Let me explain, during the lunch break,
in this case, we leave the bag still, the logger inside, the GT-120 will continue to fill the memory of repetitive points (a big star not very nice) and consume power while the GT- 600 will go to sleep after 90 seconds without moving it. During standby mode, it will not fill up the memory unnecessarily increasing autonomy of the memory and battery. I love it! In standby mode, it does not consume power at all!

11) Like any GPS, it should not be considered as a reference in precise positioning. In town, he can go off for a few points, or even make a jump of 50m if it stays still a while. This kind of GPS prefer the movement to save the coordinates. Almost static, especially near buildings, points will spread around. I correct these issues through the free software provided by @ Trip. A small tutorial explains you how to find these unwanted way-points in my GT-120 blog. In the mountains, open space, it will be very accurate, except for the altitude, a difference of 100m or so can be easily wrong. For small differences in altitude, it will be more precise, but never to the nearest meter. (I think the use of remote-controlled planes) All this kind of GPS will have this accuracy "problems" and disparate points, don't worry its not only IgotU devices  .o)


12) We can not set the time of the GPS module, as it is automatically time via satellite GMT. It is a mistake in the French translation of the @ Trip software. The computer asking you to set the unit on time, your computer and the camera are the ones you need to set on the correct time schedule.

Overall, I was very happy with the GT-120, except that every day during my 28 days trip to Iceland, I was worried about the battery life, charging regularly after 8h00 with the specs of an acquisition every 3 seconds walking and 2s over 15km/h. With the GT-600, battery life is not a problem any more as explained above. When connecting the GPS while in acquisition mode, it will create a new file and continue to record the coordinates, I would do this connection during a change of means of transport.

This autonomy is improved thanks to the following:
-Motion sensor set turning the equipment
on standby after 90s with no movements = no standby consumption  :o)
-If more than 7 minutes depending on the intervals chosen,
-The 750mA/h battery providing over 30 hours of battery life, logging time.
